Uruguay head coach Oscar Tabarez said on Tuesday that striker Luis Suarez had been the "key player" in most of the matches he has played for his country.
Uruguay will take on Saudi Arabia in their second group stage match in Rostov-on-Don on Wednesday. This match could be Suarez's 100th game for Uruguay.
The 31-year-old Barcelona star is Uruguay's all-time leading top scorer with 51 goals under his belt, but he failed to add to his tally in his side's 1-0 defeat of Egypt in their first match at the World Cup.
"Time runs fast, already 100 matches with the national team! This is a very important figure, Suarez was the key player for our team in most of the matches, he scored important goals or contributed to scoring... He didn't show his best in the match against Egypt, but he has a great potential," Tabarez told journalists.
Uruguay are second in Group A behind hosts Russia, who thrashed Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the opening match of the tournament on Thursday.
