Tunisia defeating Panama in their third and last World Cup group-stage game on Thursday is a “historic” event, Tunisia forward Fakhreddine Ben Youssef said.
Tunisia beat Panama 2-1, with the victory being their first in a World Cup since 1978. Ben Youssef scored the first goal and was named the Man of the Match.
“We managed to redeem ourselves after two defeats. Tonight was not easy… It is a historic victory, a great day for Tunisia, although we clearly did not gain the results we wanted to,” Ben Youssef said.
Both Tunisia and Panama lost their chances of reaching the round of 16 after both lost their first two group-stage games against England and Belgium.
