MOSCOW, May 28 (Sputnik) - Turkey defeated World Cup-bound Iran 2-1 in a friendly in Istanbul on Monday, as the Iranians continue their preparations for next month’s tournament in Russia.
Turkey forward Cenk Tosun grabbed a brace. He opened the scoring in the 6th minute and doubled their advantage five minutes after the halftime break.
Turkey forward Omer Bayram was sent off late in the second half and Iran midfielder Ashkan Dejagah gave his side a conciliation in stoppage time after converting a penalty.
Iran have been drawn in Group B along with the 2010 World Cup winners Spain, reigning European champions Portugal and Morocco. Turkey failed to qualify for the tournament, which will start on June 14.
