Uruguay forward Edinson Cavani said he knew he would not be able to continue playing in the World Cup round of 16 encounter with Portugal.
Uruguay beat Portugal 2-1 on Sunday (AEST), with Cavani scoring a brace. However, the forward sustained an injury and was replaced in the second half of the game.
“I am unbelievably happy that I was able to do that [to score a brace] today… As for the injury, I felt that I wouldn't be able to finish the game. It will all be clear very soon,” Cavani said post-match.
Uruguay advanced to the last eight, where they will face France on Friday. Portugal have been eliminated from the tournament.
