US football fans spent 5.6 billion rubles (around AUS$122m) during the FIFA World Cup in Russia, which is the highest total among all of the foreign visitors, a survey conducted by Russia's largest bank Sberbank revealed.
“The fans who spent the most [money] are from the US – 5.6 billion rubles and China – 4.1 billion rubles (about AUS$88.7m),” the survey said.
According to Sberbank, the countries are responsible for 14.5 percent and 10.6 percent of all the spending respectively.
Russia hosted its first World Cup from June 14 to July 15 with the games played at 12 stadiums in 11 cities across the country.
