The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system was used for the first time at a FIFA World Cup during the Group C match between France and Australia, which took place in Kazan on Saturday.
With the help of VAR, Uruguayan referee Andres Cunha awarded France a penalty in the 55th minute, which was later converted by striker Antoine Griezmann.
On Wednesday, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said that VAR had proven "beneficial" for football and it was introduced in order to help referees during the World Cup.
The match ended in a 2-1 victory to France, who will also face Peru in Yekaterinburg on June 21 and Denmark in Moscow on June 26 in their Group C.
The games of the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities till July 15.
