Switzerland did their best in their round of 16 match but couldn't beat of Sweden’s great defence, Switzerland defender Manuel Akanji said after the game.
Sweden won the match 1-0, advancing into the quarter-finals.
"It’s not easy to talk after such a game. We tried our best, but Sweden had a great defense. We were trying to defend as well, but still conceded one goal," Akanji told reporters.
Sweden midfielder Emil Forsberg’s shot in the 66th minute, was deflected off Akanji’s foot, and wrong-footed goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
Sweden will face Colombia or England in the quarter-final on Sunday morning AEST.
