On May 15, the 57-year-old signed a three-year contract to be FC Dynamo Brest’s chairman of the board but could not go to Brest earlier because of the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The former player, who has managed a number of clubs and the Argentine national team over the course of his coaching career, arrived at the local airport on a charter flight from Moscow after attending the World Cup final at the Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday. He was greeted at the airport by Dynamo representatives and officials.

A press conference with the Argentine football star is scheduled to take place at a hotel in Brest at 18:00 local time (15:00 GMT). He is also set to visit the club and attend a match in the Belarusian Premier League where his team will play against Shakhtyor Soligorsk.

Earlier, Dynamo’s press-service said that Maradona will oversee the club's strategical development.

Maradona was involved in several scandals at this summer's World Cup including his smoking in the stands of Moscow's Spartak Stadium and showing middle fingers to the Nigerian supporters after Argentina's late goal in their final group-stage game saw them through to the round of 16.

On June 30, media reported that FIFA had ceased cooperation with Maradona, who attended World Cup matches as its ambassador and was paid over $13,000 for each game.

Maradona, who is widely regarded as one of the best footballers in history, captained Argentina to victory at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.
