Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal, the London club said on their official website on Friday.
The 25-year-old joined Arsenal from German side Borussia Monchengladbach in May 2016 and has made a total of 94 appearances for the Gunners and played in all 38 English Premier League matches this season.
Xhaka made his international debut for Switzerland in 2011 and has been capped 62 times, scoring 9 goals. He was included in Switzerland’s World Cup squad for the tournament in Russia.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on Thursday and will continue until July 15, across 11 Russian cities. Switzerland have been drawn in Group E and will play their first match against Brazil on Sunday. This will be followed by games with Serbia on 22 June and Costa Rica on 27 June.
