Zenit St. Petersburg and Russia defender Yuri Zhirkov announced his retirement from the national team on Tuesday.
"Following [midfielder] Aleksandr Samedov, Yuri Zhirkov announced his retirement from the Russian national team. Thanks for everything!" UEFA posted on the Russian language version of their Twitter account.
Russia bowed out of the World Cup after losing to Croatia on penalties in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
The 34-year-old played in three of his side's matches at the tournament.
Zhirkov made his debut for Russia in 2005, scoring two goals in 87 international appearances. He was named in the Euro 2008 Team of the Tournament after helping the team to the semi-finals and was listed as one of the 30 nominees for the Ballon d'Or award, given to the top player in Europe.
