Russia midfielder Yuri Zhirkov said on Sunday that he had problems with his leg as his side beat Spain on penalties in their World Cup round of 16 clash and made it through to the last eight.
Russia head coach Stanislav Cherchesov said after the match that Zhirkov who was substituted after the first half was "unlikely" to play further part in the World Cup.
"We did not play with five defenders in this tournament, but we knew how to take on Spain, and we managed [to win]. I had problems with my leg, I couldn't run anymore, that's why I had to be substituted," Zhirkov told journalists.
In the last eight, Russia will face the winner of the Croatia and Denmark encounter in Nizhny Novgorod on Sunday.
The quarterfinal will take place at Fisht Stadium in Sochi on 7 July.
