W-League Round 10 wrap up

There was a shortage of stadiums, strangely positioned fences and lacklustre seating arrangements in Round 10, but as always, the quality and free-flowing goals were a mainstay.

MELBOURNE CITY VS PERTH GLORY

Melbourne City were too strong for Perth Glory, but off the pitch, fans weren’t happy with the way the match was treated.

Melbourne's Ashley Hatch, Tyla Jay Vlajnic and Yukari Kinga scored within 20 minutes before halftime as a deflated Perth side collapsed in front of them, with the match ending 3-0.

MELBOURNE VICTORY VS BRISBANE ROAR

Melbourne Victory's final hopes have been dashed, succumbing to a spirited Brisbane comeback courtesy of goals to Claire Polkinghorne and Celeste Boureille.

Victory took the lead through a powerful effort from former WNPL heavyweight Melina Ayres, but couldn't hold on against the W-League leaders, Brisbane striking twice in the second half to give Melissa Andreatta's side the win.

CANBERRA UNITED VS ADELAIDE UNITED

What started as two teams going toe-to-toe quickly became a bloodbath as Canberra stormed out 6-1 winners at McKellar Park.

Ellie Carpenter traded blows with Alyssa Mautz early to leave the scores locked at 1-1, but there was a false dawn on the horizon for Adelaide. Elise Thorsnens soon bagged a hat-trick as Canberra jolted to life, while Karly Roestbakken and returnee Ashleigh Sykes also nabbed goals.

NEWCASTLE UNITED VS SYDNEY FC

Both men's and women's finished the same at Allianz, Newcastle and Sydney battling out a 2-2 draw in the first match of the round.

Captain Emily Van Egmond and Gema Simon scored for Newcastle, while Princess Ibini and Kylie Ledbrook equaled for Sydney.
