A-League boss Greg O’Rourke is confident of getting bums on seats for Sunday’s Elimination Final despite opting for the less family friendly kick-off time of 7pm.
Melbourne City will host Perth Glory with O’Rourke expecting at least 15,000 to attend the AAMI Park blockbuster.
The final decision on game time was made for broadcast reasons.

During the finals launch in Melbourne O’Rourke confirmed that “7pm appears to be much better in terms of the metrics that we’ve had all season.
“Most people are watching the game at 7pm. It does pose a challenge between broadcast and the crowd because earlier in the Sunday evening is better for families in the crowd.”
There are two AFL games in Melbourne earlier on Sunday: St Kilda v Geelong at 3.20pm at Etihad Stadium followed by Hawthorn V West Coast Eagles at MCG at 4.40pm, a short walk from AAMI Park.
O’Rourke originally said AAMI Park was unavailable on Saturday as Rugby Union side Melbourne Rebels were using the stadium.
A follow-up with Football Federation Australia revealed that wasn’t the case, although the A-League boss was bullish when questioned about taking on an AFL-packed Sunday program.
“We should be able to select those dates and things that are convenient to us and not convenient to other codes,” he said.
“If we’ve got our finals, we should be right behind our code and right behind our finals series.
“I don’t think we can upstage AFL, (that) is number one in Australian football and that’s very clear. That’s unquestionable.
“But what I do want to do is make sure we don’t just open the door and let these other codes walk through.”
In the first Elimination Final, Brisbane Roar host Western Sydney Wanderers from 7.50pm on Friday at Suncorp Stadium.
With potential Melbourne and Sydney derby semi-finals, Etihad Stadium was pre-booked while it is likely Allianz Stadium would be used as the Sky Blues’ home ground.
O’Rourke added: “We wouldn’t play a (Melbourne) derby at AAMI we would definitely play at Etihad. We just have to work out with the other match and venue of availability depending on where that other match will be held as well.”
Meanwhile It will be deja vu for City captain Bruno Fornaroli who led his team to a 2-0 victory over Glory in last year’s elimination final, , opening the scoring with a famous bicycle kick.
El Tuna hopes he can replicate those heroics but with all the pressure in getting something out of this A-League season, he said 2016/17 would be a failure if they fell at the first hurdle.
“We are here to try to win,” Fornaroli said. “This is what we, the club and fans want so we’re trying to do everything to win the playoff.
“If I don’t think we can win, I’ll go home. Why would I waste my time here? So I stay because I feel we can and I have confidence with my teammates and it’s game-by game.
“This is the first final and we only need to think about Perth.”
