A-LEAGUE players and coaches have reacted to Sydney FC's Alessandro Del Piero deal with Sky Blues boss Ian Crook labelling the Italian "the whole league's marquee".
The Sky Blues confirmed they had reached an agreement with the 37-year-old former Juventus star on Friday evening, with players and coaches reacting on Twitter throughout the evening.
The move has been compared to previous marquee signings such as Dwight Yorke, Harry Kewell, Robbie Fowler and Juninho.
Sydney coach Ian Crook said landing Del Piero was fantastic for the game in Australia.
"Congrats to all involved in getting ADP to Sydney.not just our marquee but the whole leagues marquee.fantastic for the game as a whole," Crook tweeted.
Socceroo Archie Thompson cheekily labelled the 2006 World Cup winner as the biggest signing in A-League, alongside his international team-mate Kewell.
"Del piero biggest signing of a-league history next to my mate of course @Hkewell10 #massivesigning," Thompson wrote.
Former Socceroo Scott Chipperfield wrote: "Great news for Oz football with ADP heading to Syd. Big dollars for 6mths. Hopefully he sticks around longer & can help football grow in oz."
Meanwhile several of Del Piero's future A-League opponents took to the social media website, with messages about taking on their idol.
"If the del piero deal is done then that is massive for the league! Might get to play against my boyhood ideal (sic) then! #dreamcometrue," Melbourne Victory's Matthew Foschini wrote.
Former Adelaide United defender Daniel Mullen wrote: "Are u kidding me.. Del Piero to the A League!! One of my biggest childhood idols and heroes. Massive news for Australian Football! #Bravo."
Perth Glory pair Steven McGarry and Adrian Zahra focussed on the positives of Del Piero's decision for A-League crowds.
"Season cant come quick enough esp with Del Piero to Sydney FC news today..Season 8 going to be interesting and with plenty of watchin eyes," McGarry wrote.
Zahra added: "Massive signing ... Should be some bigger crowds this year because of Del Piero, especially in the Melbourne Sydney Derbies!! #childhoodfav."
