Winger Daniel Arzani pushed his case for selection in the Socceroos World Cup squad with a starring display in Macarthur FC's 2-0 A League Men home win over Adelaide United.

But coach Dwight Yorke says the winger has a lot more to come.

Iran-born Olyroo and Socceroo Arzani scored the first, provided the assist for the second and hit the bar with a free kick in Sunday's game at Campbelltown Stadium.

Adelaide were far more wasteful than Macarthur, having 11 more shots and three goals disallowed for two offsides and a foul.

Macarthur lost captain Ulises Davila with a hamstring injury after 10 minutes but Arzani provided the x-factor in attack.

Arzani's defensive application has been questioned but Yorke said he was happier today with his player's overall performance.

"I still think there's a lot to come, but its a step in the right direction where he's concerned," Yorke said.

"Whenever you have someone who is good as him and as talented as him, he needs to do the ugly side of the game and we've seen a bit of everything with him today, but I feel like he'll get stronger."

Arzani was booked by referee Shaun Evans after his goal, having lifted his shirt to reveal a reference to Iranian woman Mahsa Amini.

Amini, 22, died last month while in the custody of Iran's morality police, who arrested her after saying she was wearing her hijab too loosely. Her death has sparked widespread protests.

Yorke said players had to stay within the boundaries of the rules.

He was delighted but not surprised by his team's defensive application and the way they overcame the loss of Davila.

Just a couple of minutes before Arzani's goal, Adelaide squandered a great chance, when George Blackwood's tame shot lacked the power to beat Macarthur keeper Fillip Kurto.

Arzani made them pay moments later in the 27th minute when he received a pass from Lachie Rose and stroked the ball home with a delightful right-foot finish from just inside the penalty area.

Arzani set up the second in the 57th minute with a surging run down the left and perfect cut back for Rose to stab home from close range.

On the hour, Arzani almost scored again when he rattled the crossbar with a right-footed free kick.

Yorke said Davila's injury didn't look as bad as initially feared but the club would know more in the next 48 hours.

Davila was fouled at least four times before he went off but Adelaide coach Carl Veart felt too many players were going down too easily.

Yorke had some sympathy for Veart's opinion but felt players still had to be protected.

Hiroshi Ibusuki headed the the ball in the net twice either side of halftime, but one was rubbed out for offside and the other for a foul. Ben Warland also had a potential goal scrubbed for offside in the closing minutes.

"Hiro's second one, I don't understand why that one was disallowed, the other ones were clear offside, I think," Veart said.

"We just weren't ruthless enough.

"We were far too slow today."
