A study by online moving platform Movinga looked into the distance travelled by footballers around the world due to transfers.

Former Melbourne Victory star Danny Allsopp made it to sixth on the list, followed by Sydney FC's David Carney in seventh.

Allsopp began his career in the NSL with South Melbourne and Carlton, before moving to England to sign with Manchester City.

The striker then moved around England before joining Melbourne Victory for their inaugural A-League season.

He signed with Qatari outfit Al Rayyan in 2009, and then moved across to the MLS with DC United in 2010 before re-joining Victory in 2011.

In total, the 38-year-old played for 13 clubs across his 19-year playing career, travelling across 10 cities in four countries across four continents, totalling over 75,000 kilometres.

Carney was 6,000 kilometres behind, with 13 clubs played for across six countries and four continents. Carney made his senior debut for Halifax Town in England, moving across to Hamilton in Scotland before jetting off to Australia to sign with Sydney FC for their inaugural A-League season.

The defender then moved back to England with Sheffield United, before stints in Holland, Spain, Uzbekistan, the United States and now back in the A-League.

Two former A-League visa players also make the list in Mario Jardel (4th) and Juninho (5th).

Jardel played for Newcastle Jets in 2008, but was already well travelled before then. He began his career in Brazil before moving to Porto in Portugal, moving across to Turkey, back to Portugal, to England, to Argentina, back to Brazil, to Cyprus, and then Australia.

Following his failed stint with the Jets, Jardel moved back to his native Brazil and played for six further clubs, bringing his total to 20. In total, the Brazilian travelled almost 140,000 kilometres between transfers.

That dwarfs the figure of former Sydney midfielder Juninho, who had a total of 76,000kms travelled in his 17-year career, which saw him play in Brazil, England, Spain, Scotland and Australia.

However, nothing compares to number one on the list - German goalkeeper Lutz Pfannenstiel. He was the first player to ever play professionally in all six FIFA Confederations, with a total of 234,000 kilometres travelled between transfers.

Pfannenstiel played for 25 clubs in 13 different countries across his 20-year career. Second to him is Manchester United great George Best, who even made his way to Australia to play in the NSL with Brisbane Lions in 1983.

Rounding out the top five is Uruguayan striker Sebastian Abreu, who sits in third on the list. 'El Loco', along with David Carney, is the only active player in the top 10, having recently signed with Puerto Montt in Chile - the 40-year-old's third club in 2017 alone.
