Former Johnny Warren medallist Nathan Burns has ignored the lure of an A-League return and opted to sign with Japanese battlers Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
The 29-year-old attacker was released by FC Tokyo at the end of last month, but has quickly found a new home in Japan.
Burns had been linked with various A-League clubs including former side Adelaide United as well as Newcastle Jets, who are coached by his ex-Wellington Phoenix mentor Ernie Merrick.
Sanfrecce, previously home to Tony Popovic and Steve Corica, are three-time Japanese champions but are currently in the drop zone after 18 games in the 2017 season.

"I am honoured to sign a contract with Sanfrecce Hiroshima and be able to play for this club which is one of the most successful clubs in Japan," Burns told the club website.
"I will try my best to contribute to the victory by doing my best for the club."
The 24-time Socceroo joined Tokyo in August 2015 but struggled for game-time over the past 12 months.
