A snapshot of round 22 of the A-League Men, where Adelaide United closed the gap on leaders Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory kept their finals hopes alive.
THEY SAID IT: "Marcelo the person grew up in the favelas defending himself from a young age, he's done that from day one - he puts his arm around someone to make sure nobody else gets involved." - Western Sydney coach Mark Rudan defends his captain who was sent off for a headlock on Adelaide youngster Nestory Irankunda.
MAN OF THE WEEK: Sydney FC winger Robert Mak returned from international duty in style to save the Sky Blues from defeat. Mak scored in the 22nd minute against Western United and when Sydney were trailing 3-2, stepped up to score an 89th-minute equaliser.
STAT ATTACK: Glory's stint at their temporary home ground of Macedonia Park has officially come to an end, and what a stint it was! Glory ended up with five wins, four draws, and a loss at the venue. Their only defeat there was a 4-2 loss to Melbourne City when they had Darryl Lachman sent off in the 60th minute. A total of 34 goals were scored across the 10 games there, making for some thrilling contests.
TALKING POINT: Can Adelaide catch Melbourne City? Carl Veart's Reds are unbeaten in 11, scoring freely and have closed the gap at the top to just two points. City, meanwhile, are stuttering their way to the tail end of the season.
BEAT THAT: Defender Damien Da Silva scored a wonderful winner for Victory against Wellington. Da Silva headed down a corner and reached around a defender to cleverly hook the ball into the back of the net.
UNDER PRESSURE: Newcastle are winless in five matches and have dropped points late from winning positions in their past two outings. They need to crank things up if they're to make finals.
UP NEXT: City and Victory will resume their abandoned derby from December 17 on Wednesday, with City leading 1-0 as of the 22nd minute.
