Defending champions Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma defeated Suwon Samsung Bluewings 3-1 on Sunday to move to the top of the K-League on goal difference.
However, AFC Champions League holders Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors crashed 2-1 at home to Pohang Steelers.
Seongnam bounced back in style from their 2-1 loss at the hands of Chinese side Shandong Luneng in the continental competition, taking the lead against Suwon after just two minutes as young striker Kim Dong-hyun was found in space by Park Jin-sub and beat Park Ho-jin from the edge of the area.
Suwon were back on level terms after seven minutes though as Yang Sang-min's cross from the left was headed home by Brazilian striker Nadson.
The visitors enjoyed the best of the first half but fell behind four minutes after the restart when goalkeeper Park spilled a cross and Kim Sang-sik scooped the rebound into the net.
Seongnam sealed the win just after the hour when Kim Dong-hyun headed home a Kim Doo-hyun cross to make it 3-1.
Seongnam are one of four teams with 10 points from four games but lead Pohang Steelers, Ulsan Hyundai Horang-i and FC Seoul on goal difference.
Pohang claimed their third win in four games at Jeonbuk, who have slipped into the bottom half of the table after managing only one victory this season.
Choi Hyo-jin fired the visitors ahead after four minutes and although striker Ze Carlo headed home a Byun Jae-sub corner to level the score six minutes before the break, Park Won-jae struck midway through the second half to secure the three points for Pohang.
Woo Sung-yong scored the only goal of the game as 2005 league champions Ulsan won 1-0 at Busan I'Park, while Seoul dropped out of top spot after their goalless draw at Gwangju Sangmu on Saturday.
In Sunday's remaining game, Daejeon Citizen were held to a goalless draw at home by Gyeongnam FC.
