Thanh Hoa had drawn their first four matches of the season but Wandwasi Rodgers' second-minute goal was enough to give the visitors all three points at Long An Stadium.

Thanh Hoa climbed up to fifth, level on seven points with Dong Tam, who lost 4-3 at Binh Duong in their last match.

That victory had seen Binh Duong leapfrog Dong Tam to the top of the table but they were replaced themselves on Sunday after going down 3-1 to new leaders Da Nang.

Giang Thanh Thong opened the scoring and Almeida netted a brace for Da Nang, while South African striker Philani Kubehka responded for Binh Duong.

High-flying Hoang Anh Gia Lai slumped to a 3-0 home defeat against Khanh Hoa, while Ha Noi ACB climbed off the bottom of the table with a 1-0 win at Nam Dinh.

Elsewhere there were two high-scoring draws as Dong Thap scored a stoppage-time equaliser in a 3-3 draw with Song Lam Nghe An, while Cang Sai Gon held Binh Dinh 2-2.

On Saturday, the only game saw Hoa Phat Ha Noi and Huda Hue see out a goalless draw.
