Melbourne Victory

Lawrence Thomas - 5

Saw Orsic’s free-kick very late and his reactions were delayed. victim of poor marking from the corner as the Austrian defender Windbichler scored. Thomas way too far off his line as Orsic put them a goal ahead once again with a curling strike from outside the box. Came out to deny Junior Negão from a certain goal scoring chance.

James Donachie - 6

Seemed more composed playing out of defence considering Ulsan sat back as expected. Donachie had more time on the ball but should have offloaded earlier, putting himself under unnecessary pressure.

Rhys Williams - 6.5

Williams could dictate tempo with his control of the ball with the space and time Ulsan offered. Marshalled the tricky Jong Il-Su with intelligence. Scored the third equaliser of the match with a spectacular header after going behind again.

Jason Geria - 5.5

Going forward the one-time Socceroo was intelligent breaking forth in the first half to set up a shot for Berisha. Ulsan focused many of their attacks down his flank but was exposed at the corner by losing Richard Windbichler at the corner for which he scored Ulsan’s second.

Leigh Broxham - 6

Not troubled all too much throughout the match however he offered very little login forward. Hard to blame him for this considering he is naturally a defensive minded player although he struggled against the faster wingers.

Carl Valeri - 6

A frustrating first half from the Victory skipper led to unnecessary fouls and a few shaky moments in possession. Began to get sloppy in the second half defending in and around the box.

Terry Antonis - 6.5

When Ulsan sprung into life his creative presence was hindered as he fell back to a more controlling role next to Valeri who he often had to cover for. Antonis slowly developed into a more creative player as the game wore on but the constant falling behind by Victory kept hitting his confidence.

James Troisi - 6.5

Created Victory’s first clear cut chance back heeling a one-two with Rhys Williams to set the defender up for a shot that was goal bound but deflected wide. Put a delightful ball in behind for Kenny Athiu but the striker couldn’t control it. A hot and cold performance.

Kosta Barbarouses - 6.5

In the wars early as he was forced to chase balls in the behind that lead to nothing. Was forced backwards to build up play instead of being another thorn in the central defenders side due to Ulsan’s heavy defence.

Leroy George - 8.5

A lively start from the Dutchman and was extremely important for Victory to impose themselves on a rusty Ulsan defence however Ulsan had numbers back deep, nullifying his ability to make an impact with his pace. Clever positioning to take advantage of the Ulsan Hyundai keeper’s fumbled save and a tremendous one-two with Berisha to score the second. Assisted the third equaliser seconds after conceding for Rhys Williams to head home from the free-kick.

Besart Berisha - 7.5

Struggled to impose himself early before he volleyed a shot to the Ulsan keeper who fumbled for Leroy George’s goal. Berisha fended off the defender and linked up with George again for the second equaliser. Substituted after 70 minutes for Kenny Athiu.
