Bang Sung-hwan gave the hosts the lead after 38 minutes when he found the bottom corner with a low strike and Dejan Damjanovic doubled the advantage 10 minutes after the break when he volleyed home Server Djeparov's cross at the near post.

Koh Myung-jin added the third in injury time when he lifted the ball over Hitoshi Sogahata after the Kashima keeper had roamed too far from his goal before stroking it into an empty net.

Meanwhile, goals in either half from Yeom Ki-hyun and Lee Sang-ho helped Suwon see off defending J.League champions Nagoya Grampus at Suwon World Cup Stadium.

Yeom opened the scoring when he headed home Lee Yong-rae's cross inside the six-yard box after 23 minutes and Lee Sang-ho then capitalised on a defensive mix-up 11 minutes into the second period to seal Suwon's passage into the last eight.
