The Australian, who was lively and creative throughout, controlled Steven Pienaar's injury-time diagonal ball, before the Socceroo acrobatically screwed a shot past Wolves keeper Marcus Hahnemann only for Jody Craddock to clear off the line.

Cahill's last gasp chance came just moments after the Aussie teed up Dan Gosling's for a gilt-edged opportunity which he wasted with Hahnemann pouncing.

The Aussie put in a full shift as the Toffees remained in eighth on the EPL ladder.

Meanwhile, Richard Garcia's Hull City came out on top against Mark Schwarzer's Fulham side 2-0.

The Tigers midfielder played out a full game along with Schwarzer, who couldn't stop Jimmy Bullard's 16th minute penalty after Chris Smalling conceded the spotkick.

Later in the half, the Aussie goalkeeper did brilliantly to stop Bullard's curling free-kick with a superb low save, before denying Dean Marney from close-range.

Minutes into the second stanza, the busy Garcia was involved in the build-up to Craig Fagan's goal which he scored with a looping header over Schwarzer.

The win moves Hull level on points with West Ham in the relegation battle.

In Italy's Serie A, experienced midfielder Mark Bresciano was again absent through injury as Palermo won 3-1 at home to Bologna.

In other Dutch action, David Carney was an unused substitute in FC Twente's 3-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam.

In Turkey's Super Lig, Bruce Djite came on in the 75th minute but his side Diyarbakirspor went down 1-0 at his parent club Genclerbirligi.

In Russia's Premier League, Luke Wilkshire picked up a booking in his 90-minute performance in Dinamo Moscow's 2-1 loss at home to Zenit St Petersburg.

In Scotland's Premier League, Danny Invincibile picked up a yellow card after coming on at the break in Kilmarnock's 3-1 loss at Celtic.

Meanwhile, Aussie midfielder James Wesolowski scored the only goal of the game in Hamilton's 1-0 win over St Johnstone.

The midfielder produced the strike in the 43rd minute with a low drive from 18 yards. 

In Sweden's Allsvenskan, Ante Covic played a full game in goals as IF Elfsborg drew 2-2 at Kalmar FF.

Covic was beaten by two strikes from Kalmar's Santos, the first an early near-post header and the second a late long-range effort.

In Switzerland's Super League, Scott Chipperfield was substituted in the 54th minute as FC Basel drew 2-2 at Sion.

 In Croatia's Prva HNL, Josip Skoko put in a full shift for Hajduk Split in a 2-0 home win over Varteks.

In Romania's Liga I, midfielder Spase Dilevski put in a full shift as Universitatea Craiova won 1-0 at Rapid Bucuresti.

In USA's MLS, striker Danny Allsopp made his debut as DC United was thrashed 4-0 by Kansas City Wizards. The former Melbourne Victory front man came on just after the break.

In England's lower divisions, Adam Federici had a solid game as Reading drew 1-1 at home with West Bromwich in the Championship.

At Watford, Brad Jones continued his extended run in the Middlesbrough side in a 1-1 draw.

He made a number of saves while Rhys Williams also put in a full shift with Scott McDonald out with a hamstring injury.

Injuries also at Crystal Palace who lost 2-1 at home to Cardiff City with Nick Carle expected to miss 10 to 14 days with a calf strain.

Palace are now four points away from the safety zone.

In England's League One, Shane Lowry returned to the Leeds United first team that went down 1-0 at Norwich City in League One.

Neil Kilkenny was also recalled into midfield, playing 86 minutes in a decent performance as the Elland Road outfit remain in second on the League One table.

Dean Heffernan's Huddersfield Town moved within one spot of a promotion play-off spot with a 1-1 home draw with Charlton Athletic. The Melbourne Heart bound left back put in a full shift.

Gareth Edds was not part of the Tranmere Rovers team that lost 3-0 at Brighton & Hove.

In England's League Two, shot stopper Dean Bouzanis was an unused substitute as Accrington lost 2-0 at Bournemouth.

Oliver Bozanic put in 72 minutes before being substituted as Aldershot won 2-1 at Bury.

Chris Herd was denied a late winner as he had his long strike tipped over in stoppage time in Lincoln City's 1-1 draw with Northampton. His return to the starting side also saw him pick up a yellow card.

At Chesterfield, Aaron Downes is aiming for a November return after suffering a knee injury as he took no part in the 2-1 home loss to Hereford.
