EXITING Newcastle star Adam Griffiths is determined to quit the Jets for the Gold Coast on a high after falling out with coach Gary van Egmond.
Fully-fit Griffiths expects to play a part in all six of the Jets' coming ACL matches despite having been dropped to the youth team and then benched at half-time in his final club A-League appearance last season.
Griffiths clashed publicly with coach Gary Van Egmond at the end of that game, sparking heated controversy about the state of the Jet's dressing room.
But with the Jets now under pressure to perform in Asia, Van Egmond says all his players have a "clean slate" and will be "judged on their merits" - and Griffiths aims to make the most of the opportunity.
"I will leave on a better note," Griffiths told the Newcastle Herald. "I'm just looking forward to the first game. My focus is to play well for the fans and my teammates.
"I think my attitude towards my game is second to none. People can question my attitude, but I find it quite funny, to be honest . . . I think it's a small minority, because the majority of fans I see wish me all the best.
"But I don't need to respond to any of that. I just want to keep quiet, go out and do my job and play well."
Van Egmond has been impressed by Griffiths recent form in training and trial matches.
"Adam's a good player," van Egmond said. "At the end of the day, it's a case of him just concentrating on his football and playing to the best of his ability and he can be a very effective footballer."
Griffiths missed the Jet's 1-0 win over Central Coast this week due to a recurring quadriceps injury, but expects to be fit for a trial against Hamilton Olympic next Tuesday.
That will be the Jet's final practice match before they open their ACL campaign on March 10 against Beijing Guoan, where Adam's brother Joel is now playing.
The brothers will clash again in the Chinese capital in June, when Adam's Gold Coast United squad debuts at the Birds Nest Olympic Stadium.
