PORTSMOUTH'S under-fire boss Tony Adams accepts it has been a difficult last two months but insists he has no concerns over his future at the moment.
Adams watched his side slump to a 3-1 defeat against a vibrant Fulham side but maintains he is focused on keeping the club in the top flight.
Portsmouth, without a win from their last eight league games, are now facing a real relegation battle. They were up against it after 14 minutes when Andrew Johnson put Fulham in front.
Two goals from substitute Erik Nevland (71 and 80) put Pompey to the sword before David Nugent scored a consolation effort six minutes from time.
But when asked if he had any concerns for his managerial future, Adams replied: "No, I don't think so. It is all good at the moment.
"I do my job to the best of my ability. It has been a tough period. The last two months have been difficult both on and off the pitch.
"I'll be delighted when the transfer window closes. Heads have been turned up and down the country. Once it is closed we can get on with business.
"We made mistakes today. We gambled on offsides and it is disappointing because we worked hard in training on that.
"We were undone within 15 minutes of the game. If you continue to make mistakes you will lose points.
"We gambled on the offsides but you need your defence to play as a unit, your midfielders too. We missed Sol Campbell today."
Adams is hoping to make another couple of signings before the end of the transfer deadline because he feels the squad is beginning to suffer.
"I didn't have many options on the bench today," said Adams. "But I think David Nugent will get a chance.
"He worked his socks off. But we need a couple of players as I am limited to what I can do. Jermaine Pennant is suspended for the next game and he's also got a knock at the moment. So I am running out of players.
"The situation has changed at the football club. I've not been given £100m to spend in this window that's for sure. But you get on with the squad you've got."
Fulham boss Roy Hodgson has every sympathy for the plight Adams finds himself in.
Hodgson pulled off a miracle escape last season to keep the Cottagers in the Premier League and knows just exactly what his Pompey counterpart is going through.
"He's at a low ebb," conceded Hodgson. "He is in that unfortunate position that I found myself in at the beginning of last year.
"It is a very difficult situation to be in. When the team plays as well as Portsmouth did today and you lose 3-1 it is not as easy to know quite how to deal with that.
"I think they are a good team and playing quite well. I am sure if they continue to do that they won't be losing every match 3-1.
"But there is only so many times you can go in after defeats with everyone's chins on the ground and say 'don't worry lads, things will turn around', before they think you are a long-playing record and start to doubt your sanity.
"There is no magic wand in this game. It is work in the end which brings its rewards and, of course, the quality of the players you have at your disposal.
"It wasn't an easy game. Both teams worked hard. But I was pleased by the solidity of our performance and delighted by the runs of our front players to get in behind their defenders."
Derby's Giles Barnes has joined the club on loan until the end of the season but Hodgson confirmed he is in talks with two other potential additions to his squad.
"We have lost three players and they need to be replaced," said Hodgson. "We've recruited one but I would still like to bring in two more and we are negotiating with two clubs and players. It would be nice if both could come but I can't say if that is going to happen or not at the moment."
