TONY Adams branded Blackburn chairman John Williams "spineless" for sacking Paul Ince after just 21 matches.
The angry Portsmouth manager fears the best coaching talent in England is being killed off by club chairmen not willing to give young managers enough time.
Ince landed his first top-flight job after impressive stints with Macclesfield and MK Dons - but lasted just six months at Ewood Park before being replaced by Sam Allardyce, who was unveiled by Rovers this afternoon.
Williams acted after a run of three wins in 17 games saw Blackburn slip to 19th place and one point off the bottom of the Barclays Premier League.
But Adams was angered by the way Ince, his former England team-mate, was treated and he fears for the future of home-grown coaches.
"I like Paul a tremendous amount and I was gutted, absolutely gutted for him. It is spineless, the man who employed him can sack him just as quickly as that," said Adams.
"You don't get a chance to build, you don't get a chance to do anything. You do a few press conferences, throw a team out there for two minutes. It is just ridiculous.
"He (Ince) is a good man and you are in danger of killing the coaches in this country, you really are.
"I have seen them go out of the game very quickly - the Bryan Robsons and Glenn Hoddles. Great coaches who could be utilised, who could be helping people.
"I was very angry."
Adams is in a similar situation to Ince having taken over at Portsmouth when Harry Redknapp moved on to Tottenham. His only previous managerial experience was an unsuccessful spell in charge of Wycombe in 2003-04.
Adams, who brought in John Metgod as his assistant manager, has overseen three wins and five draws in his 12 matches in charge at Fratton Park.
"As you go into a new job, it is different. Harry is gone, Joe (Jordan) is gone. Things change, dynamics change," said Adams.
"You have to find your position in the club and your role in the club and your responsibilities and that takes a bit of time."
Portsmouth had conceded 13 goals in six games before last night's 3-0 UEFA Cup win over Heerenveen.
Adams addressed the problem in training this week but added: "Maybe because I have come in as manager I had taken my eye off the ball a little bit.
"We have had a transition and I have had other things like recruitment on my mind."
Adams is approaching his first January transfer window and he potentially faces a major challenge to keep hold of England internationals Jermain Defoe and Glen Johnson.
Adams this week sanctioned the sale of Lassana Diarra to Real Madrid for a reported £20million and defender Lauren has told Spanish newspaper AS that last year's FA Cup-winning team is being "dismantled".
He expects Defoe and Johnson to link up with Redknapp again at White Hart Lane.
Lauren said: "Not only is it Diarra, there is Defoe, who could return to Tottenham, to whom Glen Johnson is also going to go. The economic situation is very bad, we are already aware of this.
"Me as well. In January. It's Turkey or Greece."
