Redknapp believes Adebayor should be accepted by the Spurs fans despite being a former Arsenal player.

The on loan Manchester City striker grabbed the opening goal midway through the second half with Jermain Defoe netting a second to secure a first league win of the campaign for Spurs.

Redknapp said: "Ade has got off to a good start so it is fantastic for him.

"He has got to sustain that now and he can become a big hero at Tottenham.

"Listen, Patrick Vieira wanted to come to Tottenham two years ago. I met Patrick, went around his house, had a cup of tea.

"If Patrick wants to come to Tottenham, anyone can come to Tottenham who has played for Arsenal because you are talking about Tony Adams, Dennis Bergkamp, Vieira, the great legends.

"He was willing to come. Listen, they are professional footballers, not murderers. Why can't Ade go and play for another team."

The opening goal was created by another debutant in Scott Parker who added some steel to the Spurs midfield department.

Redknapp said: "Scott will be great for us not only as a player, but as a person, around the club. He is old school.

"He is the sort of footballer that every club used to have three or four in their team. They don't breed them anymore.

"He is a Steven Gerrard-John Terry type, a leader, a Frank Lampard-type. Those sort of people, they are very rare now.

"We needed someone like that and that is why we pushed for him."

Redknapp felt it was only a matter of time before Spurs registered their first win.

He said: "It has been a difficult start but we are a good team. It is only a matter of time with a good team before you start winning."

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy saw plenty of positives despite his side suffering their first defeat of the campaign.

He said: "I thought for 60 minutes we matched them in every department. What we haven't matched them of course is scoring the goals at the end of it.

"They are a top six side. That's a team that has just turned down £40million for one of their players (Luka Modric).

"Adebayor has come in via Manchester City, and Defoe is an England player, Gareth Bale is worth so many millions.

"They are far, far advanced than we are as a Premier League team and yet for most part I was happy with our performance."
