After a troubled first half of the campaign which saw William Gallas stripped of the captaincy following public criticism of the team, the Gunners have slowly started to recapture their form, with an unbeaten Barclays Premier League run now at eight games.

However, Arsene Wenger's side remain outside the top four and are six points behind new leaders Manchester United, who have a game in hand.

Adebayor, though, insists the Gunners, without injured captain Cesc Fabregas until April, are up for the challenge.

"The most important thing is that we keep on going and keep on believing in ourselves and thinking we can do something. That is the only way we can improve our football," Adebayor told Setanta Sports.

"If we didn't believe we could still win the title, we might as well just ask the boss if we could spend the season back home enjoying ourselves with our families.

"Last season we were 10 points ahead of Manchester United and at the end of the day they won the title, so we will keep going until the end of the season and see what we can do."

Arsenal have beaten both United and Chelsea this season, although they lost at home to Aston Villa and could only draw with Liverpool.

However, as there are still clashes with the other leading sides to come, Adebayor knows there is plenty left to play for.

"You cannot say now that the title is over because they only need to lose three games and we are back in it," declared the African striker.

"We are in a better position because everyone has forgotten about Arsenal. They are talking about Liverpool, United and Chelsea. Arsenal are still alive and at the end of the season we will see what we can achieve."

Adebayor feels Arsenal must cast aside any doubts in their ability and start to play again with the handbrake off.

He said: "Sometimes now, when we are 1-0 up we become frustrated and start panicking. Last season, when we were 1-0 up, we knew we were going to win the game easily, but this season, when we are winning we are more afraid than they are.

"At the moment we are playing with the handbrake on and we need to tell ourselves to be free and keep going and believe in ourselves."

Adebayor rejected suggestions the Gunners lack experienced, calm heads in the squad.

"It is easy to say that you need more senior players to help you cope with the pressure, because they have been there and done it - but that doesn't mean they will be able to help you when the team is doubting itself," he said.

"We are all human beings. Arsene Wenger sometimes has doubts. We have some senior players like Kolo Toure and William Gallas, but most of the time they are in doubt as well. So they are not going to help the younger players.

"The most important thing is for each player to believe in himself."
