Former Bundesliga player and manager, Marco Kurz has signed a two-year deal taking over from Guillermo Amor who led the Reds to the premiership-championship double in 2015/16.

According to reports Kurz was one of three Germans to make the Reds shortlist and becomes the club’s fourth foreign coach after Dutchman Rini Coolen and Spaniards Josep Gombau and Amor.

Kurz played one match shy of 300 in the German topflight and enjoyed his most successful coaching spell at FC Kaiserslautern, where he guided the club to the top tier before finishing seventh in the 2010/11 season.

“We have also had in depth discussions regarding Visa players and his expectations of the entire playing group.

“This is an important first step in returning AUFC to the top of the A League”

Speaking from Munich, Kurz said he was impressed by the club setup and the city of Adelaide.

“Grant Mayer and Ante Kovacevic always left me under the impression that I would be the right person for the job as a head coach in Adelaide. I was impressed by their effort to convince me.
