FORMER Newcastle Jets striker Ryan Griffiths has returned to the A-League to join Adelaide United, the Reds confirmed today.
Pending a medical, Griffiths will join Adelaide until the end of the season to bolster their campaign o reach the finals despite a series of injuries to key players.
Griffiths recently completed a year long stint with Chinese club Beijing Baxy where he arrived as a hero after his earlier successful stint at a fan favourite at Beijing Guoan.
He had returned to Australia before Christmas and had been building up a new role in the media before Adelaide approached him to strengthen their side for the last half of th season.
The 32 year old scored 19 goals across two seasons with the Jets and Adelaide United General Manager Michael Petrillo said he was optimistic about what Griffiths can bring to the Reds on the field.
“Ryan is an experienced player who Josep feels will suit our game and believes will be a very valuable acquisition adding depth and flexibility to the squad,” Petrillo said.
Griffiths is scheduled to arrive in Adelaide tonight and barring any problems with his medical and the processing of his international transfer clearance, will be eligible to line up for the Reds in Saturday’s game against league leaders Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium.
