Adelaide United striker Dzengis Cavusevic will miss the rest of the season after scans confirmed he's torn his ACL.
The injury occured in an "innocuous" training ground incident on March 29, with the initial severity of the rupture unknown.
The Slovenian striker has a goal and an assist so far for Marco Kurz' side - both coming in the Reds' 5-2 win over Newcastle Jets - in just over 200 minutes of football.
The injury-prone forward has previously torn his ACL twice, in addition to a strain picked up in 2013. Between 2012 and 2014, Cavusevic was out injured for almost 450 days due to persistent knee injuries.
Club doctor, James Ilic, confirmed the bad news for United fans.
“Džengis has had scans on his knee to determine the nature of this injury and we can confirm he has ruptured the ACL in his left knee," he said.
“Džengis will now discuss the best course of action with a surgeon to begin the recovery process as soon as possible.”
In good news for Adelaide, Baba Diawara, Ryan Strain and Ersan Gulum have all recently returned from injury concerns.
