The Reds defeated Wanderers 3-2 at ANZ Stadium on Sunday night, ensuring  Roar claimed the last playoff spot.

Roar had an anxious wait on the result after seeing off another finals-hopeful, Perth Glory, by the same score on Saturday.

Adlung said there was never any thought of taking it easy on Wanderers whose own hopes hung in the balance.

"It was important to show our best performance," the 30-year-old German told Fox Sports.

"Brisbane won yesterday and if we were in the position of Brisbane they'd expect that we give everything.

"We played a very good game today – from both sides – but I think in the end we deserved the win."

Adlung scored on 39 minutes after teammate Baba Diawara (21') cancelled out Oriol Riera's penalty opener (16').

Marcelo Carrusca equalised on 42 minutes and with the game poised at 2-2, Riera stepped up to the penalty spot on the cusp of half time only to see his effort well saved by Paul Izzo.

Having botched the chance to take the lead again, the Wanderers received another blow when Keanu Baccus was sent-off for kicking out at Johan Absalonsen just after the hour.

Substitute Ryan Kitto sealed the win for the Reds with 10 minutes left on the clock, ending the team's away game yips.

Facing an Elimination Final in Melbourne Victory's backyard next Sunday, Adlung said it was vital to snap their three-game losing streak on the road.

"It was good for us that we know we can win away from home," he said. "It’s always good if you play away to stay in good shape and to get a victory."
