The 27-year-old joined the club earlier this month after securing his release from Inter Milan, citing the need for a break from the pressures of football, but he is now aiming to get back on the pitch "as soon as possible".

He is targeting the May 30 fixture against Atletico Paranaense but accepts there is much work to be done to get back in top condition.

"Physically, I am only at about 20%," he said. "A plan has been set up and I have accepted it because I want to be back as soon as possible.

"I am a little bit overweight, but not too much. In 15 days, I will be fit to play."

The striker is promising fans he can be a big success with the club where he began his career back in 2000.

He failed to really shine during a six-month stint with Sao Paulo last year - also brought about because he was not happy in Italy - but insists he can do better this time.

"I can prove much more here," he said. "I am happy and fine within myself. It will help a lot. I like to always be joking and smiling. I must prepare myself well."

Most of all, Adriano says he is happy to be home.

"I chose Flamengo to get back on the right road, and I am only thinking about being happy here, close to my kids," he said.
