Sao Paulo striker Adriano could be suspended for up to 540 days after headbutting an opponent during a state championship game on Sunday.
The 25-year-old forward, on loan at Sao Paulo from Italian giants Internazionale, was shown a straight red card following a clash with Santos defender Domingos.
Sao Paulo coach Muricy Ramalho said of Adriano's actions: "He was wrong. He cannot do what he did. It is bad, dangerous behaviour."
The Brazilian Court of Sporting Justice is set to rule on Adriano's punishment at a meeting on February 18.
If the Brazil international is found guilty of violent conduct, the court has the power to impose a ban ranging from 120 to 540 days.
