The Asian Football Confederation have revealed they are revising the selection criteria for the Asian Player of the Year award in order to achieve greater transparency.
Since 2006, the winner has been selected according to a weighted ranking system which takes into account performances at major AFC and FIFA tournaments.
As a result, the choice usually boiled down to the selection of the Most Valuable Player award in individual games, a decision made by either a match commissioner or a technical study group.
However, the AFC stressed the new process would not only take into account the views of the match commissioner and technical study groups but also that of technical analysts and fans, who would vote for their match MVPs through the AFC's official website.
The players accumulating the greatest number of MVP points at the end of the season would be put forward as nominees for the award with the winner selected by a five-member panel.
This year's awards are to be held in Shanghai on November 25.
