THE AFC have launched a probe into claims two players of Victory SC of Maldives were offered a bribe to throw their AFC Cup 2008 game against Home United of Singapore.
It has been reliably reported to AFC that two foreign players of Victory SC were approached by an unidentified man in their hotel room and offered bribes to throw away the match.
“We take these allegations very seriously and we will launch a full investigation to find out and establish the truth,” AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam told www.the-afc.com.
“AFC is committed to rooting out corruption from the game and we will do everything possible to achieve this aim,” added the AFC chief.
“We will also alert FIFA to this incident and request the governing body of world football to join us in the investigation.”
Victory SC are at the bottom of Group D in the AFC Cup after drawing one match and losing another, while Home United lead the table with six points from two wins.
