The injury-plagued Agostino is not at 100 percent fitness but said he'd like to be a bench option when the Reds tackle the Vietnamese side at Hindmarsh Stadium next Wednesday.

"I enjoy playing football for this club and I knew I was going to be able to come back soon so I hope I can stay on the park and get a few more games under my belt," he said.

"Maybe I'll be in with a chance of making the squad for the game on Wednesday.

"I need another good week of training which I'm looking forward and if I do well there then it's up to (coach Aurelio Vidmar) Viddie whether he wants to put me in the squad. I may be an option for perhaps the second half."

Agostino said the trial game was a good comeback test after a long stint on the sidelines.

"Against Melbourne it's always a bit of a feisty affair. There were a few solid challenges being thrown in there, it was a very competitive game," he said.

"I got back into it pretty quickly, I got a good feel for the ball, good touches in, I felt right at home.

"It was good to have a hit-out, get a few of the cobwebs out and I was pleased I pulled up fine."

But despite his promising comeback, Agostino admitted his disappointing run with injuries had made him question the durability of his body.

"It's very much a mental thing being injured for such a long time. (You are thinking) 'Is it going to come back? Am I going to tear it again?' It's always something that goes through your mind.

"So just getting a game in like that yesterday was pretty important for me and I hope every day gets better and better."

Confined to spectator status for the Reds' opening AFC Champions League games, Agostino said his side was 'deservedly' sitting on top of their group with two wins and a draw.

He said the players were focussed on the upcoming games but added they were excited about the prospect of playing finals.

"It brings even more excitement into the squad knowing you are going to achieve something," he said.

"You are getting closer and closer and that brings your intensity up even more and the boys are more keen and willing because you can actually grasp it and taste it.

"We've never been this close before. Last year was a learning experience but you can see we've learned from that and are doing very well.

"It's not a long competition you've got six games, you get in, get the job done and get out."
