AJAX director Rik van den Boog has urged the club's players to pull together following the departure of coach Marco van Basten.
Van den Boog spoke to the players before training today as they prepare to face second-placed FC Twente in their final match of the Eredivisie season on Sunday.
Van Basten resigned on Wednesday following the 4-0 defeat by Sparta Rotterdam that put them out of contention for a Champions League spot.
Van den Boog wanted to keep most of his message private, but said: "I did set a mirror before them. We must continue, of course. We must try to emerge stronger out of this."
Van den Boog was the first person Van Basten told of his decision to leave, and the director felt he had no choice but to accept the former Holland coach's resignation.
"I find it remarkably brave that he could present himself that vulnerable," added Van den Boog.
