A goal from Gabri moments before the break was enough for Ajax to reclaim the Dutch Super Cup as they beat champions PSV Eindhoven 1-0.
Ajax won the Shield for the third successive year in a fairly predictable encounter with neither side willing to risk injury or suspension with the opening day of the Eredivise looming just days away.
The Eindhoven side were without several key players including strikers Jefferson Farfán, Arouna Kone, Danko Lazovic and Kenneth Perez but gave youngsters Jonathan and Genero Zeefuik some invaluable match practice.
It was the Amsterdam outfit that grabbed the all-important goal on the stroke of half time. The PSV defence failed to clear a bouncing ball from the penalty area, allowing Spanish midfielder to blast home from close range with minimal hassle.
The game eventually petered out into a sluggish affair with little goalmouth action, but the 48,000 strong crowd were delighted nevertheless to see Phillip Cocu hand over the shield to the home side.
