Trailing 2-1 from the first leg at the DSB Stadion Henk ten Cate's side scored three second-half goals to claim a 4-2 victory on aggregate at the Amsterdam ArenA.

Defender John Heitinga opened the scoring for Ajax in the 55th minute with a goal that appeared to be offside.

Ajax's lead was doubled three minutes later when defender Ryan Donk put the ball through his own net.

The home side wrapped up the victory in the dying stages of the game after goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg's long goal-kick lands found Klaas-Jan Huntelaar who was able to evade the AZ defence.

Huntelaar dummied the ball past Boy Waterman before laying the it off to Gabri (90) to calmly slot into an open net to seal Ajax's place in the third round qualifying stage of the Champions League.

Meanwhile, RKC Waalwijk were relegated as they lost their promotion/play-off match with VVV Venlo who take their place in the Eredivisie.

VVV won 3-0 with goals from Frank van Kouwen, Leon Kantelberg and Dirk Jan Derksen.

FC Utrecht were held 0-0 by Vitesse in the Intertoto Cup play-off but triumphed on the away goals rule because of their 2-2 draw in the first leg in Arnhem.
