Ajax certainly hit the ground running last weekend with an 8-1 win at De Graafschap making them the early pacesetters in Holland's Eredivisie.
They might not be able to maintain that pace over the course of a season but it means Henk ten Cate's Amsterdammers go into Sunday's seasonal home debut against Heerenveen in high spirits.
Heerenveen striker Lasse Nilsson admits Ajax's scoreline last weekend shows that the strength in the Eredivisie is not as it once was.
"You don't get results like 8-1 in De Graafschap (in other leagues)," said Nilsson in remarks to www.sc-heerenveen.nl.
The Heerenveen match will be special for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar whose scored four times against De Graafschap and who was Eredivisie top scorer two seasons ago when he spent half the season with Heerenveen before joining Ajax.
He was replaced as Eredivisie top scorer by Heerenveen's Afonso Alves who netted 34 times last season.
Whether Alves remains at the club remains to be seen with Middlesbrough having lodged a bid to secure his services.
AZ Alkmaar have also started well and will hope to build on their 4-0 win over VVV Venlo with a win in Arnhem against Vitesse.
All four of Holland's big four won on the first weekend with Feyenoord showing signs of stirring from a slump.
The Rotterdam giants host NAC Breda and will be hoping to build on an encouraging 3-0 win at FC Utrecht in their opener.
But it is champions PSV Eindhoven who have been the dominant force in the Eredivisie in recent seasons.
They were the least convincing of the big four on week one, having to work hard to beat Heracles Almelo.
Now Ronald Koeman's side return home for the first match in front of their own fans with NEC Nijmegen their visitors.
It remains to be seen whether Ferne Snoyl will play for NEC after being dropped to the reserves by coach Mario Been.
De Graafschap are still sore after their spanking in Doetinchem and could be in for some more punishment in their first away fixture at FC Groningen.
Coach Ron Jans has forged Groningen into a solid team and the northerners kicked off the season well with a 3-0 win at NAC Breda.
They have turned their new Euroborg home into a fortress since moving their from the Oosterpark and will be confident of more goals against their promoted visitors.
VVV, like De Graafschap, had a tough reintroduction to the Eredivisie but will look to make amends at home to Excelsior.
Tilburg welcomes Eredivisie football for the first time this football when local side Willem II host Sparta Rotterdam while FC Twente meet FC Utrecht in Enschede.
The weekend action kicks off in Kerkrade with Roda JC hosting Heracles Almelo.
