Ajax general director Rik van den Boog has assured coach Marco van Basten he need not fear for his job in the immediate future.
Van Basten has come under heavy fire from Ajax fans after the Amsterdam giants missed out on a place in the Champions League.
But the former Holland boss can still count on the support of Van den Boog.
"Sacking Marco van Basten is not a point of discussion at the moment," he told newspaper De Telegraaf.
"Marco has an ongoing contract. And by putting another coach in front of the squad it's absolutely not guaranteed that everything will become better all of a sudden."
Ajax lost 4-0 at Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday to slip four points behind second-placed FC Twente, who beat newly-crowned champions AZ Alkmaar 3-0, with one match remaining.
Van den Boog will evaluate the season with Van Basten after the final round of fixtures this weekend, but appears firmly behind the coach.
"There is chemistry (between Van Basten and the players)," he said.
"The squad of players are also guilty for the results.
"As a team you must want to be the best and you must want to be the best player. You may expect a certain drive from a professional football player."
Van den Boog admits missing out on the Champions League is "an ugly knock on the head".
He added: "It's clear that this will have consequences for the new season.
"(But) I believe we can become champions next season with the players that we have now. But we will keep our eyes open for immediate reinforcements."
