SOCCEROOS captain Lucas Neill will be hoping to turn in some eye-catching performances in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers after being dumped by his UAE Pro League club Al Jazira.
The former Galatasaray, West Ham and Blackburn defender is in search of a new club after being told his one-year deal won’t be extended at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium.
A report by Albawaba Sports said coach Caio Junior is also headed for the exit door following Jazira’s defeat to Al Ahli in the Asian Champions League and fourth place finish in the Pro League.
In an interview last month, Neill was positive about is time in the UAE and appeared keen to stay on.
"I’ve been really pleased with the way things have gone and really excited for the future too," he told Sport360°.
“My contract comes to an end soon. There are a lot of things happening. I’ve got World Cup qualifiers to look forward to. So, all in all, I think this season has been a wonderful one both on and off the pitch.”
Neill, 34, enjoyed a season of highs and lows with Jazira – scoring the opening goal in the club’s President’s Cup win in April but missing his target in a crucial penalty shootout which saw Jazira dumped out of the ACL.
Saudi club Al Nassr are said to be keen on signing the Aussie international, according to Albawaba Sports.
