The 24-year-old striker has signed a three-year deal worth a reported seven million euros and will look to replicate his prolific from in the Middle East having netted 11 times in 21 games for Gamba in the J.League.

He has also shone on the continental stage with 10 goals in this season's Asian Champions League before Gamba were eventually dumped out in the last 16 by Kawasaki Frontale and Al Sadd will be keen for him to replicate that form for his new club in the 2010 edition.

"I have a lot of information about football in Qatar and Al Sadd in particular," said Leandro.

"A lot of players who played before in Japan moved to Qatar and they played here. Football in Qatar is developing rapidly and I will be looking to help Al Sadd win a lot of titles.

"I'm also looking to be top scorer in the Qatar league."
