Sydney FC fans didn't just feel outclassed on the pitch, with their home stadium showing advertisements stating Victory fans were "the best in the league."
During the match, banner ads adorning the upper level stand at Allianz Stadium broadcasted a tribute to Melbourne Victory fans, stating: "MVFC: Thankyou to the best fans in the league".
The advertisements were captured by disgruntled Sky Blues fans, who took to twitter to voice their outrage and even got the attention of Sydney's CEO, Danny Townsend.
Townsend admitted that he hadn't seen the ads, calling them "bad taste".
Can somebody explain to me why at a @SydneyFC home semi-final, there’s a message saying, “#MVFC Thank you to the best fans in the league”? I mean, is this a joke? What serious league would do that to the home team? 🤦🏻♂️ #SYDvMVC #BigBlue #ALeague pic.twitter.com/p8V0qxdnaW

It's unclear whether the ads were organised by the A-League - perhaps to reference Victory's highest average attendances this season - or between Melbourne Victory and Allianz Stadium.
Victory won the Big Blue semi-final 3-2 after extra time, setting up a Grand Final against Newcastle Jets.
