WERDER Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs has admitted he expects to receive bids soon for young Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil, and he may be forced to sell the rising star.
Ozil shone as Germany secured a third-place finish at the World Cup, and he is has now attracted suitors from across Europe, reportedly including the likes of Real Madrid.
The 21-year-old has only one year remaining on his contract at Bremen, and Allofs conceded the club could not afford to let him walk away when his deal expires.
"I can already think that we will have offers in the next few weeks or just before the transfer deadline from a number of clubs," Allofs said.
"If something concrete comes, we have a duty to talk to Mesut and his advisors and to see what they want. We will not change our policy. We cannot afford it."
Bremen have offered Ozil a new contract, but do not appear close to agreeing terms.
