Roar have flown north to Mackay to play their second fixture in pre-season against local club Mackay & Whitsundays Magpies Crusaders United on Thursday night.

New signings Adam Taggart, Stefan Mauk and Tobias Mikkelsen are all among the Roar squad in Mackay.

Several key players have departed the club in the off-season including 2017/18 top scorer Massimo Maccarone, Fahid Ben Khalfallah, Jade North, Ivan Franjic and Corey Brown.

Despite the widespread personnel changes and last season’s underwhelming campaign, Aloisi is still aiming high ahead of the new season.

“We can’t wait for it,” the former Socceroo said.

“Brisbane Roar should always be looking to win trophies and it’s no different this year.

“We want to win every trophy possible and that’s our goal.”

Roar resumed for pre-season on June 6, earlier than most clubs, at the club’s new Logan training base.

Brisbane won their opening pre-season fixture 4-0 over Logan Lightning late last month, with goals from Aaron Reardon and Ollie Duncan plus an Eric Bautheac double.

Aloisi added: “I didn’t want to give them too long off for holidays. They’ve come back and it gives us a little bit more time to work on our structures and fitness.

“We’ve got a lot still to work on and get through in pre-season, like new players getting used to the players that have been here a while. Working on our game, with and without the ball.”

The Roar boss gave his players last week off, before heading to Mackay with a view to bonding as a group and working on their fitness.

He said most senior players would play 45 minutes against Magpies Crusaders, while the new recruits would be integrated.

“The new players will get to know the players who’ve been here and the other players,” Aloisi said.

“They’ll begin to enjoy the company of their team-mates and that’s how you get a strong squad in terms of character and team spirit.”

Roar’s first competitive game is against Melbourne City in the FFA Cup Round of 32 at Dolphin Stadium in Brisbane on August 7.
