Broich played in Jamie Maclaren for the striker to put the Roar ahead 2-1 in the second half. The 35-year old came off the bench in the 71st minute to make a vital impact.

"He showed his quality again," Aloisi said.

"Thomas has been doing well. Thomas has played a few games in a row, we have to look after his loading a little bit. He's been doing really well for us - scoring goals, setting up goals. The ball that he put on for Jamie Maclaren was different class.

"And with his left foot - he told me he's got a good left foot and he showed it today. It was a good game, an entertaining game of football. Both teams had a go. Both teams had a lot of possession as well.

"Both teams countered very well. But our boys dug deep and shows the character that we've got in this squad. It was a good win for us. We knew it was going to be a tough game. We knew the Mariners were going to throw everything at us."

Broich, who has played in every Roar game so far this season, has recorded one goal and one assist. The attacking midfielder turns 36 next month.

The victory puts Brisbane in equal second spot on the A-League ladder. The Queensland outfit hosts Western Sydney at Suncorp Stadium this Friday.

Aloisi believes his team can get a lot better.

"We still know there's a lot of improving in our side and we need to improve in a lot of different areas," he said.

"We're still picking up points, we're still playing some good stuff. Creating chances, defending with desperation when we have to and that's important. But we know we'll get better as well. We've got a big Christmas period coming up, a big game against the Wanderers on Friday and then Sydney FC after that.

"The players are very easy to motivate when you're playing the Wanderers at home. There's a bit of history there in terms of the grand final. We should have a big crowd. Any team that wants to win has to improve each week.

"They have to look for motivation from within, and we've got those players. A lot of our players have won in the past and they want to win again."
