EXCLUSIVE: Former Reds skipper Ross Aloisi says Adelaide’s game plan from last Friday night’s win over Perth can lead to more joy against Sydney FC at the SFS this Sunday.
Aloisi tipped Perth Glory to defeat his former club last Friday night but it was an energetic Adelaide United which took the points over disappointing Glory in round one.
The Reds employed a tweaked tactical plan which worked a treat in the 1-0 win at Hindmarsh and Aloisi says the same gameplan should be enough to stifle the talented sky blues machine.
"Against Perth on Friday night, Adelaide pressed much higher up the park then perhaps they normally would," he told au.fourfourtwo.com.
"They didn't allow Perth and their great players any time to settle in midfield and they won their share of one-on-one battles.
"This Sunday, Sydney have some really talented players in the middle of the park. If the Reds do that again, it will help shackle Sydney where they are strongest."
Kofi Danning, Brendan Gan, Steve Corica, Terry McFlynn and Karol Kisel are key parts of Vitezslav Lavicka's midfield pipeline to John Aloisi.
Like Glory last Friday in the South Australian capital, expect those prime movers to be denied space and time, predicts Aloisi.
"Even when [injured Lucas] Pantelis came off, Alemao moved into midfield and things still worked well," said Aloisi.
The former Socceroo also rejected Glory coach Dave Mitchell's claim that the Reds played long-ball football - a view that riled some in the Reds camp - and said that style was needed at certain times of the game.
"They still play the same way though," he said of the 2008 ACL runners up. "They still try to catch teams on the counter and push the ball around and played quite attacking.
"What did surprise me though was the fitness of Adelaide. I was worried about that given their lack of match practice but they were fantastic in that regard. I'm now more confident about Adelaide."
Aloisi doesn't expect to see former sky blue favourite Mark Rudan start the game on Sunday.
"I don't think he'd be match fit," added Aloisi. "He'd probably sit on the bench. And Fyfe, Cornthwaite and Jamieson were superb last week."
Aloisi's new Internet TV show is also going well. The show Two Up Front with John Kosmina is now broadcast two nights a week on Monday and Thursday nights on www.twoupfrontlivetv.com.
He added: "Lots of opinions and news from our contacts around the country. There's Kossie and myself and it's interactive too so you can have your say.
"We all have an opinion."
