To see the three in Sydney kits...

While the experienced striker is believed to have signed a deal that will earn him more than a million dollars a season, he says footballing potential and quality of life were huge factors in his decision.

The 32-year-old, who revealed that he was fulfilling one of his wife’s wishes by moving the family to Sydney, wants to see the harbour city club enjoy the kind of growth boasted by former club the Central Coast Mariners.

The Mariners saw their home gate rise from eight or nine thousand to more than 18,000 and Aloisi wants to see the SFS enjoy an attendance growth spurt as well.

The man who first developed the Sydney FC bug while watching November’s LA Galaxy clash is looking forward to the pressure that his marquee status will bring.

He knows there will be those who point to the finances rather than the football but he told au.fourfourtwo.com: “I can offset that (accusation) pretty easily.

If I wanted big money I could have gone to the Middle East or Asia. It’s not all about money. It’s about living in Sydney and playing for the club that I think will be the best in Australia.

“People can say what they want about me. On the pitch I’ll work as hard as I can for, the team, the supporters and the club. I also want to do well for myself. I don’t want to come here and look like an idiot. I’m here to win things with Sydney FC.

“You always get pressure no matter where you go, especially as a striker. I had pressure to score in Europe, with the Central Coast Mariners and now here.

"I enjoy that. Strikers have to thrive on pressure otherwise they don’t survive.”

Aloisi said the time was right for a fresh challenge and the Socceroo forward says a grand final defeat was not a factor in his decision to quit.

He said: “It wouldn’t have made a difference if we’d won the grand final 5-0.

"I enjoyed my time, we were very successful but as I said, it was just time. The crowds picked up unbelievably for the Central Coast during my time.

"Hopefully the same will happen here.”

While Aloisi is the marquee man he is just as excited about playing alongside his fellow new boys.

He said: “I thought Bridgey was Newcastle’s best player in the grand final.

"Funnily enough my brother (Ross) spoke to me about him a few months ago and was saying how highly he rated him.

"But there’s Simon Colosimo as well plus the guys I’ve played with for Australia in the likes of Tony Popovic and Steve Corica.”

While Aloisi’s focus is now on scoring goals for Sydney FC he does not believe his departure will suddenly spell the end of the Mariners success.

He said: “With Lawrie McKinna there, they’re always going to be a force.

"He’ll make sure he signs the right players. He signs players that are going to fit in and he gets the best out of them, whether they are big names or not.”

So recently a Bluetongue hero, Aloisi is unsure how he will be received when Sydney FC travels to Gosford next season. It’s a subject which has crossed his mind.

He said: “I spoke to Lawrie about that two days ago. He thinks there’ll be the odd boo but mainly people will respect me for what we achieved and what I achieved.

"He expects a good reception for me. I don’t know though, I can’t worry about that.”
